The importance of toilets, both as an amenity and as a strategic political tool, in the Indian scenario is very much reflected by the reach of the Swach bharat abhiyan. While the rest of the country is addressing the issue of sanitation with a need based strategy, in Kerala context (being an open defecation free state) the concern for toilets has evolved beyond that of mere need.
ITF aims to accentuate and emphasize on the importance of public toilets and sanitation, from an individual level to that of a community, which eventually shapes up as a cultural testament of the society.
The mission of the festival is to introspect on the public toilet phenomenon of Chennai and to initiate a quest to put forth a new benchmark in sanitation.
To trigger the formation of a democratic platform for sanitation.
To identify the diverse stakeholders from multiple disciplines, from top policy makers, decision makers, producers and diverse consumers.
To bring about conversations on the various arguments of human equity with toilets as a canvas.
To pool in the power of innovations for the betterment of public toilets.
